become a Work-Exchange volunteer
We offer a unique work-exchange program for students, young people, and travelers to stay in Phoenix for an extended period while also volunteering at the hostel.
We look for volunteers who are social with our international guests, interested in exploring Phoenix and the desert, and most importantly hard-working cleaners. All volunteers work 25 hours per week on cleaning shifts, some reception duties, yard work, and helping to organize guest activities & cultural events!
In exchange, volunteers get free private staff accommodations, access to our kitchen, free wifi, free laundry, and use of a shared bicycle. We encourage volunteers to use their 2 days off each week to explore Phoenix and the American Southwest. And, of course, volunteers get the chance to connect with interesting travelers from all over the world!

BECOME THE NEW OPERATIONS MANAGER
The Phoenix Hostel & Cultural Center team is seeking the next great in-house manager for our downtown desert gem. No joke, it begins April 1, 2020! Do you love creating sustainable systems for organization and admin? Does the idea of hiring and training and array of thoughtful and talented international traveling staff excite you? Are you an advocate for social justice in your community and interested to learn what it takes to host cultural events? If yes to all of the above - let’s talk!
We’re a jovial bunch always down for the latest travel tale, impromptu jam sessions over a shared meal, and day trips to one of Arizona’s many gorgeous landscapes. Take a look at what we’re seeking in an ideal candidate ⬇️:
Previous management experience
(International a plus)
Deep investment in social/climate/justice
Ability juggle a full international team of rotating staff (1-3 month sessions)
Conflict resolution pro
Out-of-the-box problem solver
Ability to work 25 - 30 hours a week

Our interview process has three steps:

The third and final step of the interview process is a video chat. We want to see your smiling face and learn about your management style, how you approach conflict resolution, and your previous job experience. We’d also love to answer any and all questions you might have about the position.
